"No Connection" — Fix Guide
If your Astrion Remote shows "No Connection" or fails to connect to Home Assistant, follow this step-by-step troubleshooting guide to identify and resolve the issue.
Overview
The "No Connection" error means your Astrion Remote cannot communicate with your Home Assistant server. This is one of the most common issues users encounter, but it's usually easy to fix.
The connection between your Astrion Remote and Home Assistant requires three things to be working correctly:
- Network: Both devices on the same network with stable connectivity
- Home Assistant: The server must be running and accessible
- Authentication: The Long-Lived Access Token must be valid
Follow the steps below in order — each step addresses a different potential cause.
Step 1 — Check Wi-Fi Connection
The most common cause of connection issues is a Wi-Fi problem. Start here.
1.1 Check Wi-Fi Status on Remote
On your Astrion Remote, go to Settings → Network or look at the Wi-Fi icon in the status bar.
- If the Wi-Fi icon is missing or has an X, the remote is not connected to Wi-Fi.
- If connected, the icon will show signal strength bars.
1.2 Reconnect to Wi-Fi
If the remote is not connected, reconnect to your Wi-Fi network:
- Go to Settings → Network
- Select your Wi-Fi network and enter the password
- Wait for the connection to establish
💡 Tip: Astrion Remote supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks. If you have trouble connecting, try switching to the other band.
1.3 Check Router Status
Verify that your Wi-Fi router is working:
- Check if other devices can connect to the same network
- Restart your router if other devices are also having issues
- Ensure the remote is within range of the router
Step 2 — Verify Home Assistant is Running
If Wi-Fi is working but the remote still shows "No Connection," the issue may be with your Home Assistant server.
2.1 Check HA Server Status
Verify that your Home Assistant server is running:
- Open the Home Assistant web interface from a computer or phone on the same network
- If you can't access it, the server may be offline
- Check if your Home Assistant device (Raspberry Pi, NUC, VM) is powered on
2.2 Check HA URL
Your Astrion Remote connects to Home Assistant using a specific URL or IP address. This may have changed.
- On your remote, go to Settings → Home Assistant → Login
- Check the URL displayed — it should match your Home Assistant address
- If you're using a dynamic IP, the IP may have changed
homeassistant.local.
2.3 Check Network Discovery
If automatic discovery fails, you may need to enter the HA URL manually.
- Try entering the HA URL manually in Settings → Home Assistant → Manual Setup
- Format:
http://YOUR_HA_IP:8123orhttps://YOUR_DOMAIN - Make sure both devices are on the same local network
⚠️ Important: Astrion Remote and Home Assistant must be on the same subnet for automatic discovery to work. If they are on different VLANs, you will need to enter the URL manually.
Step 3 — Verify Access Token
Your Long-Lived Access Token may have expired or been revoked.
3.1 Check Token Status
In Home Assistant, go to Profile → Security → Long-Lived Access Tokens to see all active tokens.
- Find the token named "Astrion Remote" (or your custom name)
- If the token is missing or has been deleted, it needs to be recreated
- If the token exists but you're still having issues, try revoking it and creating a new one
3.2 Create a New Token
If the token is invalid or expired:
- Create a new Long-Lived Access Token
- On your remote, go to Settings → Home Assistant → Login
- Re-enter your HA URL and the new token
- Tap Connect to re-establish the connection
🔒 Security Note: If you suspect your token has been compromised, revoke it immediately and create a new one.
Step 4 — Restart Devices
Sometimes a simple restart is all it takes to resolve connection issues.
4.1 Restart Astrion Remote
On your Astrion Remote:
- Go to Settings → System → Restart
- Wait for the remote to reboot
- Check if the connection is restored
4.2 Restart Home Assistant
From the Home Assistant interface:
- Go to Settings → System → Restart
- Wait for Home Assistant to restart
- Refresh your Astrion Remote after HA is back online
4.3 Restart Your Router
As a last resort for network issues:
- Restart your Wi-Fi router
- Wait for it to fully boot up
- Reconnect your Astrion Remote and check the connection
💡 Tip: The order matters. Try restarting the remote first, then Home Assistant, then your router.
Step 5 — Re-Pair with Home Assistant
If none of the above steps work, try re-pairing your Astrion Remote with Home Assistant.
5.1 Log Out
On your Astrion Remote, go to Settings → Home Assistant → Log Out.
5.2 Create a New Token
In Home Assistant, create a new Long-Lived Access Token. (Even if your old token was working, creating a fresh one can resolve authentication issues.)
5.3 Re-Pair
Follow the pairing guide to reconnect your Astrion Remote to Home Assistant.
- Use the QR code method (recommended) or manual entry
- Make sure you're using the correct HA URL and the new token
⚠️ Important: After re-pairing, you will need to refresh your RosCard views. Pull down from the top of the screen and tap Refresh.
Quick Checklist
Use this checklist to quickly rule out the most common causes:
- Wi-Fi: Remote is connected to Wi-Fi with good signal
- Network: Both devices are on the same network
- HA Status: Home Assistant server is running and accessible
- URL: The HA URL is correct and matches the server address
- Token: The Long-Lived Access Token is valid and not revoked
- Restart: Tried restarting remote, HA server, and router
- Re-pair: Logged out and re-paired with HA
