July 3, 2026 — After months of community requests, Astrion Remote V1.4.0 delivers the most asked-for feature: up to 8 custom physical button mappings per TV card.
This release gives users complete control over how their Astrion Remote interacts with their smart home. Every button can now be customized — not just for TV control, but for any scene, script, or device in your Home Assistant ecosystem.
What's New
Up to 8 physical buttons per TV card — fully mappable.
Switch between global buttons and TV-card-specific mappings.
Improved Astrion Home gateway detection and pairing.
Enhanced card architecture for better performance.
"The ability to customize every single button is what sets Astrion apart. Now I can launch my whole home theater setup with one button — projector, screen, lights, and sound all at once."
How It Works
V1.4.0 introduces a new button mapping interface in the TV card settings:
- Physical buttons — Map any of the remote's physical buttons (including long-press actions) to Home Assistant entities, scenes, or scripts
- TV card specific — Each TV card can have its own button layout, automatically switching when you change sources
- Fallback — Global button mappings serve as defaults when no TV card is active
V1.4.0 inadvertently removed button event reporting — this was a mistake and has been fixed in V1.4.1. We recommend updating to V1.4.1 for the complete experience, especially if you rely on button events for automations.
Community Impact
This feature was driven almost entirely by community feedback. Users had been requesting custom button mapping since the earliest versions, and the team prioritized it based on forum votes and discussion activity.
The implementation also addresses a long-standing limitation: while Astrion had the physical hardware for button customization, the software layer needed significant rework to support flexible, user-defined mappings. V1.4.0 delivers that rework.
How to Update
V1.4.0 is available via OTA. To update:
- Open the Astrion Launcher
- Go to Settings → System → Firmware Update
- Tap Check for Updates
- Follow the on-screen instructions
We recommend updating to V1.4.1 if you're a power user who relies on button events for automations. V1.4.1 includes all V1.4.0 features plus the restored event reporting and additional bug fixes.
