June 6, 2026 — Today marks a pivotal moment in Astrion Remote's evolution. With the release of V1.2.0, Astrion transforms from a software-based Home Assistant remote into a true universal remote — capable of controlling both IP-based and local infrared (IR) devices, with seamless Harmony HUB integration.

This update represents the single most significant feature expansion in Astrion's history, positioning it as a worthy successor to Logitech's beloved Harmony line.

What's New in V1.2.0

Local IR Control

Direct infrared control over local network — no cloud dependency.

Harmony HUB Integration

Full Harmony HUB support with remote and select mode switching.

Custom TV Background

Personalize your TV card with custom background images.

Astrion IR Button Mapping

Map any IR command to Astrion buttons for direct access.

"This is the update we've been waiting for. With local IR and Harmony integration, Astrion finally replaces my Harmony remote completely. No cloud, no subscription — just local control."

Why This Matters

Before V1.2.0, Astrion was an excellent Home Assistant remote — but it relied entirely on IP-based control. If a device didn't have Wi-Fi or Ethernet, or if its cloud API was slow or unreliable, Astrion couldn't control it.

Local IR changes everything. Astrion can now control legacy devices, projectors, soundbars, and any IR-enabled equipment — directly, with millisecond response times, and without any cloud dependency.

Combined with Harmony HUB integration, Astrion can now orchestrate complex home theater activities — turning on a projector, lowering the screen, switching the AV receiver to the correct input, dimming the lights — all from a single, beautiful touchscreen interface.

Community Reception

The community response to V1.2.0 has been overwhelmingly positive. In the official firmware thread, users have praised the integration as a "game-changer" and a "true Harmony replacement." The ability to customize TV backgrounds and map specific IR buttons was also highly requested — and delivered.

Known Caveat

Some users initially reported Harmony misidentification issues with Shield TV (detected as Harmony HUB due to current_activity: Plex). This was fixed in V1.3.0. If you experience issues, please update to the latest version.

What's Next

V1.2.0 is a foundation. Future updates will build on this with:

  • Harmony Activity Awareness — Map button layouts per activity (under discussion)
  • Music Assistant support — Targeted for late July 2026
  • Further IR library expansion — More devices, more commands

How to Get V1.2.0

V1.2.0 is available now as an OTA update. To update your Astrion Remote:

  1. Open the Astrion Launcher on your remote
  2. Navigate to Settings → System → Firmware Update
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to download and install

Note: For IR functionality, you'll need the Astrion IR module (available separately). Harmony HUB integration requires a Harmony HUB on the same network.
