We strongly recommend that only experienced users perform firmware flashing. If you are unsure, please contact our technical support team for further assistance. Follow each step carefully. If the device becomes unusable (commonly known as "bricked") due to improper procedures, you will be responsible for the repair costs. Proceed at your own risk.
This guide uses the MTK 6580 platform as an example. The same procedure applies to Astrion Remote. This document was originally created for the RTI/Inbino platform and has been adapted for Astrion Remote by replacing the firmware package.
Prerequisites
Before beginning, ensure you have the following:
- Windows PC — Windows 7 or later (Windows 10/11 recommended)
- USB Type-C Data Cable — A cable that supports data transfer, not just charging
- Astrion Remote — Powered off before beginning
- SP Flash Tool — v5.2208 or newer
- MTK USB Driver — Installed on your Windows PC
- Astrion Firmware Package — The latest firmware for your device
You must first disable driver signature enforcement in Windows before installing the MTK USB driver. Otherwise, the installation will fail.
Downloads
Step 1: Install MTK USB Driver
Disable Driver Signature Enforcement
In Windows, go to Settings → Recovery → Advanced Startup and select Restart Now. Then select Troubleshoot → Advanced Options → Startup Settings → Restart. Press 7 to disable driver signature enforcement.
Download and Extract the Driver
Download the MTK USB Driver from the link above. Extract the ZIP file to your desktop.
Install the Driver
Run the installer as administrator. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
Verify Driver Installation
Connect the Astrion Remote (powered off) to your PC using the USB-C data cable. Open Device Manager and verify that the MTK USB driver appears under "Ports (COM & LPT)".
If the device does not appear in Device Manager, try a different USB port or cable. Some USB cables are charging-only and do not support data transfer.
Step 2: Flash Firmware with SP Flash Tool
Power Off the Device
Ensure the Astrion Remote is completely powered off before beginning.
Extract the Firmware Package
Download the Astrion Firmware Package from the link above. Extract the ZIP file
to your desktop. You will find the scatter file named
MT6580_Android_scatter.txt in the binpackage directory.
Launch SP Flash Tool
Extract and launch the SP Flash Tool application. The main interface will appear.
Load the Scatter File
In SP Flash Tool, click "Scatter-loading" and select the
MT6580_Android_scatter.txt file from the extracted firmware folder.
Start the Flash Process
Click the "Download" button. SP Flash Tool will enter a waiting state.
Connect the Device
Connect the powered-off Astrion Remote to your PC using the USB-C data cable. The progress bar at the bottom will flash red briefly, then turn yellow. The firmware programming process will begin and the progress bar will gradually fill.
Wait for Completion
Once the progress bar reaches 100%, a "Download OK" pop-up window will appear. This indicates the firmware has been successfully flashed.
Disconnect and Boot
Disconnect the USB cable. Power on the Astrion Remote. The device should boot with the new firmware.
Do not disconnect the USB cable or power off the device during flashing. Interruption can permanently damage the device and require professional recovery.
After Flashing
After flashing the firmware, the Device ID (Serial Number), Wi-Fi MAC, and Bluetooth MAC may be erased. You must restore these values using SN Writer before the device can receive OTA updates or function correctly.
- If you have not already done so, back up your Device ID before flashing
- After flashing, the device will be on the factory firmware version
- You may need to re-pair with Home Assistant and reconfigure RosCard
- If the device does not boot, try repeating the flash process
Troubleshooting
Device not detected by SP Flash Tool
- Ensure the MTK USB driver is properly installed
- Try a different USB port or cable
- Restart your PC and try again
- Ensure the device is completely powered off before connecting
"Scatter file not found" error
- Ensure you have extracted the firmware package completely
- Verify the scatter file is in the
binpackagedirectory - Try re-downloading the firmware package
"Download failed" error
- Check the USB cable connection
- Ensure the device battery has sufficient charge
- Try a different USB port
- Restart SP Flash Tool and try again
