High-Level Workflow
Setting up your Astrion Remote with Home Assistant involves seven main steps. Here's the big picture before we dive into the details:
- Prepare Home Assistant — Ensure your devices are integrated and working
- Install Integration & Dashboard — Add Astrion and RosCard via HACS
- Create a Dashboard — Build a Lovelace dashboard with RosCard cards
- Connect the Remote — Pair your Astrion Remote with Home Assistant
- Sync the Dashboard — Pull the dashboard data to your remote
- Configure Physical Buttons — Map hardware buttons to actions
- Fine-Tune and Update — Keep everything up to date

Step 1 — Prepare Home Assistant
Before you begin, make sure your Home Assistant instance is ready for the Astrion Remote.
Prerequisites
- Home Assistant running version 2024.12 or newer
- HACS (Home Assistant Community Store) installed
- Your devices (lights, climate, media players, etc.) already integrated and working in Home Assistant
- Your Home Assistant instance is accessible from the Astrion Remote (same network or via secure remote access)

Step 2 — Install Integration & Dashboard
The Astrion Remote requires two components installed via HACS: the integration (for device communication) and the RosCard dashboard (for the remote's UI).
2.1 — Add the Integration Repository
1 Open HACS
In Home Assistant, navigate to HACS → Integrations.
2 Add Custom Repository
Click the menu (⋮) → Custom repositories → Add.

Click Add to save.
3 Install the Integration
Search for Astrion Home Integration in HACS, click Download, and restart Home Assistant when prompted.[reference:1]
2.2 — Add the RosCard Dashboard Repository
1 Open HACS → Dashboards
Navigate to HACS → Dashboards.
2 Add Custom Repository
Click the menu (⋮) → Custom repositories → Add.

3 Install RosCard
Search for RosCard in HACS Dashboards, click Download, and refresh the frontend.

Step 3 — Create a Dashboard for Astrion
Create a dedicated Lovelace dashboard for your Astrion Remote. This dashboard will contain the RosCard cards that appear on your remote.
1 Create a New Dashboard
In Home Assistant, go to Lovelace → Dashboards and click Add Dashboard. Name it something like "Astrion Remote".
2 Add RosCard Cards
In your new dashboard, add RosCard cards for the entities you want to control:
- Light — control brightness, color, and scenes
- Curtain / Blind — open, close, set position
- Fan — speed control and on/off
- Climate / AC — temperature, mode, fan speed
- Media Player — play/pause, volume, source selection
- Scenes — trigger automations and scenes
- TV — power, input, volume, direction keys
- Weather — current conditions and forecast
3 Configure Each Card
For each RosCard:
- Select the corresponding Home Assistant entity
- Optionally set display aliases for cleaner naming
- Enable "independent display" for quick-access pages
4 Organize into Views
Organize cards into views (rooms or modes) if you want multiple pages on the remote. For example:
- View 1: "Living Room" — lights, TV, climate
- View 2: "Bedroom" — lights, blinds, fan
- View 3: "Media" — media players, scenes
💡 Tip: The remote will display cards in the order they appear in your dashboard. Arrange them strategically for the best user experience.
Step 4 — Connect the Astrion Remote
Now it's time to connect your physical Astrion Remote to Home Assistant.
1 Open Astrion Settings
On your Astrion Remote, open the Settings app and navigate to the Home Assistant or Integration section.
2 Enter Connection Details
Enter your Home Assistant connection details:
- Instance URL: Your Home Assistant URL (e.g.,
http://homeassistant.local:8123) - Access Token: A long-lived access token generated in Home Assistant
To generate a token: In Home Assistant, go to Profile → Security → Long-Lived Access Tokens → Create Token.
3 Pair the Remote
The Astrion Home Integration should auto-discover your remote[reference:3]. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the pairing and linking process.
⚠️ Troubleshooting: If the remote is not discovered, ensure both devices are on the same network. The integration uses mDNS for discovery — check that your network allows multicast traffic.[reference:4]
Step 5 — Sync the Dashboard
Once your remote is connected, sync your RosCard dashboard to the device.
1 Open the Astrion App
On your Astrion Remote, open the main app or launcher.
2 Use the Sync Function
Look for the Remotios / Sync function in the app or settings. This pulls the RosCard dashboard data from Home Assistant.
3 Verify the Sync
After sync, your remote should display your custom cards and be able to control the linked entities. Test a few buttons to confirm everything works.
💡 Tip: If you make changes to your dashboard in Home Assistant, you'll need to re-sync the remote to see the updates.
Step 6 — Configure Physical Buttons
Starting with v1.4.0, you can map up to 8 custom physical buttons on the TV card.[reference:5] This allows you to fully customize hardware button behavior per device context.
6.1 — Select Remote Model
1 Open TV Card Settings
In Home Assistant, open your TV Card configuration.
2 Select Your Remote Model
In the TV Card settings, select your Astrion remote model. This defines which physical buttons are available for mapping.[reference:6]

6.2 — Configure Button Behavior
1 Open Shortcut Configuration
In the TV Card's shortcut configuration page, you can map physical buttons to actions like play/pause, scene triggers, light toggles, and more.[reference:8]
2 Understand Global Button Behavior
The Global Button Behavior setting controls how physical buttons behave:
- Enabled — Uses global shortcut mapping everywhere[reference:9]
- Disabled — Uses TV card mapping inside TV screen, global mapping elsewhere[reference:10]
When disabled:
- Inside the TV interface → physical buttons follow ROS TV card mappings[reference:11]
- Outside TV interface → buttons follow global shortcut settings[reference:12]
3 Map Each Button
For each physical button on your remote:
- Direction keys (Up/Down/Left/Right)
- Power button
- Volume keys
- Colored shortcut keys
Assign actions like:
- Play/pause media
- Trigger scenes
- Toggle lights
- Change inputs
- Run automations

Keeping Everything Updated
- Astrion Firmware: Updates are delivered over-the-air (OTA). Check for updates in Settings → About.[reference:14]
- RosCard Integration: Updates are available via HACS. Check HACS for new versions.[reference:15]

Making Changes to Your Dashboard
